Dear LFS Racers,

The time has come to tell you a bit about something else we have been working on. We had planned to announce this nearer the release date, but a demonstration version of Rockingham was spotted in a special version of Live for Speed, at the real Rockingham race track during the BTCC weekend.

The story

The opportunity to get access to Rockingham and permission to develop it for LFS came in 2008, through our contact at V1 Championship. It was clear to us that it would be very good for LFS to have a real track. It was a great help to us that the track is located not too far away in England, so we took the decision to go for it. Rockingham is an interesting track with several configurations inside a four sided oval.

Laser scanning

After considering various ways to try and recreate an accurate version of the real thing, we realised that laser scanning was the best method. Laser scanning produces millions of points in 3d space, so we can then build a track to line up as accurately as possible with the laser scanning data, which is said to have an accuracy of around 2 cm. We discussed this with apr services in London, and were impressed by their systems including the fact that the 3d points can also have a colour, created by matching the scanning data with a photograph. We were pleased to ask apr to obtain and process the data. Scans were taken from several points around the track so that all areas were seen by the scanner and camera. This was later combined into a single set of data which we imported into the LFS track editor. Here are some pictures of the laser scanning data.

Development

We visited Rockingham to have a drive around, get a video of the track and take several photos. Eric also went back on another occasion to get some more photos of some missing details. We think the result looks very good, not quite finished yet but we're getting there. Using the track also gives us some more real reference data to help improve the accuracy of the LFS physics.

License

One important thing we must mention is that to access Rockingham in LFS, users will need an S3 license. We have added the BMW Sauber F1.06 to the S2 license and will be releasing the VW Scirocco for the S1 license as free updates. We realised that at some point we need to move onto the S3 license and it would be better for the community to be able to start using S3 content sooner rather than later. The current plan is to also include another car in the initial content of the S3 license.

We cannot yet give a release date estimate. We want to get Rockingham to you sooner rather than later, but we don't know what will come up between now and when it is ready for release.

prodrive' Racing Team are placerea sa va anunte ca au lansat o noua echipa, in lumea LFS-ului. Este vorba despre prodrive' JR Racing Team. Aceasta este o echipa mica, din ea vor face parte jucatorii cu potential, care intr-o buna zi vor ajunge sa faca parte din echipa mare.

Cu aceasta ocazie echipa prodrive' Racing organizeaza un campionat LFS, care se va desfasura pe S2 (ne pare rau, fara crack, si fara demo), acesta va avea 5 etape afisate mai jos, fiecare etapa va utiliza o clasa de masini, pilotii concurenti vor putea alege una acele masini pentru a participa la etapa respectiva.

Durata curselor va fi de 1 ora, deci nu va fi un numar prestabilit de ture, se va seta cronometrul din joc, iar la sfarsitul acelei ore, cand leader-ul cursei trece linia de sosire, cursa va lua sfarsit.

Vremea va fi aleatorie, si se va anunta in ziua cursei, de asemena si vantul va fi anuntat in ziua cursei.

Sunt invitiati toti pilotii Romani, care detin o licenta valida S2. Pentru a va inscrie trebuie sa da-ti reply la acest thread, cu numele dvs, vi se va da un numar de participare din partea organizatorilo, numar pe care il veti folosi pe parcursul a celor 5 etape.

Informatii suplimentare legate de formatul id-ului de participare vor fi prezentate in Regulamentul General, postat mai tarziu pe acest thread.

07/11/2009 - South City Town Course - NA Class ( XFG / XRG )
14/11/2009 - Kyoto National Reversed - TBO Class ( XRT / FXO / RB4 )
21/11/2009 - Aston Historic - NGT Class ( XFR / UFR )
28/11/2009 - Blackwood GP - LRF Class ( FZ5 / LX6 / RAC )
05/12/2009 - Westhill International - GTR Class ( FXR / XRR / FZR )

Dupa cum observati cursele sunt la o saptamana una de cealalta. Cursele vor incepe la ora 20:00. Calificarile vor incepe la 19:00 si vor dura 35 de minute, urmat de 25 de minute pauza, apoi cursa.

Pitstop nu va fi obligatoriu.

Mai multe detalii vor fi afisate in regulamentul general...

Pentru moment toti pilotii doritori sa alerge in acest campionat, sunt rugati sa posteze aici, numele lor... (numarul de participare va fi repartizat de catre marshali mai tarziu)

La finalul fiecarei etape se va face un filmulet urcat pe youtube, cu toate fazele, momentele, si manevrele importante din acele curse... inclusiv comentariu.

We have released a new, full version with many improvements : Z25

It is compatible with version Z, so does not contain the new tyre physics or the VW Scirocco. We are working to get those things to you as soon as possible, but in the meantime we wanted you to get the benefit of all the new compatible features and updates that have been tested a lot recently on our forum, including :

- New wheel drawing system
- Improved road car dashboards
- ABS brakes on some road cars
- Improved and much faster List of Hosts
- Powerful and flexible multiple screen support

Salut , mai nou pe aici si am si eu cateva intrebari.
Ma joc LFS ,demo, de vreo 3 ani si acum vreau sa achizitionez varianta S2 ,insa nu mai gasesc prin Romania nicaieri. Daca ma poate ajuta cineva , ii multumesc mult.
In al doilea rand cum s-ar proceda: am luat jocul de la ei de pe site si pentru a putea trece la S2 imi schimb doar "license status" si trece la S2 sau mai trebuie sa downloadez si alta varianta a jocului ?. Mai pe scurt ma intereseaza procedeul total .

In al 2 le-a caz : iei licenta de la ei de pe site si introduci codul primit in profil (la voucher code). Dupa ce introduci codul treci automat la S2. Nu trebuie sa mai downloadezi nimic.

Stiam de cel de pe PCGarage insa acum mi-ai confirmat ca este si S2 (ma temeam sa nu fie S1). Multumesc mult pentru informatii .
Sa inteleg ca daca nu mai trebuie downloadat nimic jocul de la ei de pe site are deja implementate toate traseele si toate masinile ,ele insa fiind blocate pana la achizitionarea voucher-ului.

Exact. Nu prea are cum sa fie S1 deoarece S1 nu costa atat.

M-au sunat astazi de la pcgarage si mi-au spus ca nu il mai aduce importatorul . Ma poate sfatui cineva cum mai pot achizitiona jocul ? (a mai cumparat cineva cu cardul , sunt de incredere? )
