Looking at the Intel P35 Express chipset(@Tech-Hounds)

At 466 MHz FSB, the additional bandwidth on the P35 allows it to finish SuperPi 8M calculation faster by 1 second. Well, P35 does offer more performance on higher FSBs and there's likely more frequency headroom if you're lucky or brave enough.
That's good news for overclockers dissatisfied with P965 FSB wall.

Now, to performance. Depending on application and the load (graphics or system), we can expect around 10 to 15 percent improvement on certain situations.

Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6: An early look at X38(@AnandTech)

Intel designed the P35 with the mainstream market in mind and always planned on the X38 being the chipset that would offer the next step in performance, whether that was in a multi-GPU situation with dual x16 capability and enhanced throughput, improved memory/chipset performance, or as a great overclocking platform for a wide range of Core 2 processors including the upcoming Penryn series.

We are generally impressed with the Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 motherboard and look forward to providing updated results with our retail board once the release BIOS arrives in the lab.
Even in its early state, the performance is very good and stability has been excellent throughout several days of 24/7 benchmark testing.

Speaking of overclocking, in testing to date with the engineering sample, we were able to match or exceed the levels reached with our best P35 motherboards when utilizing the quad core processors.
We even managed several benchmark runs at 510FSB with our Q6600 set at an 8x multiplier and additional cooling. Also of note, at least with this particular board setup, we generally could run our CPU and memory voltages slightly lower at the same settings as our P35 boards.
Dual core performance with a wide variety of chips was excellent also...

Extrem de simplu,dureaza 2-3 minute...
Din Windows,fara floppy,MS-DOS-uri,clear CMOS sau alte belele etc.
Aveti FlashMenu,de preferat ultima versiune( nu cea de pe CD),redenumiti Beta BIOS scriind M630A_11.BIN dati update from file(BIN file) si baiatu' face treaba...

Atentie!Inchideti toate programele,antivirus,mess,etc. si vedeti ca la settings FlashMenu sa aveti bifat clear CMOS.
Nota!Dublul restart apare totusi daca/dupa ce intrerupeti alimentarea placii de baza.
Trebuie de asemenea,dupa update,refacute setarile din BIOS.

Cu noul Bios singurul minus pe care l-am observat este afisarea eronata a temperaturilor la proc(nu la core-uri),cu 15-16 grade in plus fata de cea reala,in rest e OK,intr-adevar Bios-ul e mai bogat in comenzi si se misca putin mai bine.

Overclocking the GA-P35-DQ6 was just as simple as it was on the GA-P35-DS3R. The board had no problems ramping FSB right from the start and did not require any controlled steps or burn-in. We were able to push the board from a default 266MHz FSB to 515MHz using stock air cooling. The only tweaking we had to do was increase the MCH and FSB voltages slightly by 0.2V. This result is actually identical to what we achieved with the GA-P35-DS3R before and the only thing different this time is a cooler board due to the extensive heat-pipe system on the GA-P35-DQ6.

The redeeming factor of the GA-P35-DQ6 however, is its overclockability. With its 515MHz FSB overclock, the GA-P35-DQ6 joins the ranks of some of the highest overclockable motherboards we've tested. Although the GA-P35-DS3R is also in this category, the GA-P35-DQ6 offers users more peace of mind with much better cooling capacity. Overall, the Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 is a good effort to bring about the new 'DQ6'. Solid engineering, high compatibility, robust, exceptional overclocking and good all-round performance are all the characteristics of the GA-P35-DQ6. It's a great motherboard - granted. However, for US$100 more than the affordable GA-P35-DS3R, the GA-P35-DQ6 will interest only the truly hardcore.

The Abit IP35 Pro is one of the nicest motherboards that I have reviewed to date. With so many features, it's hard to find a place to start. First, the overall layout is very easy to work with, and I didn't have any real issues with any of the cables or components. For the longest time, if you needed an overclocking board for Core 2 Duo processors...
Abit fills this gap with their P35-E motherboard.

With regards to the layout, the board isn’t cramped at all, thanks to the lack of some features and the full-ATX form factor. I particularly like the fact that the memory modules can be removed without the bottom locks hitting the video card. The area around the processor looks spacious enough for most heatsinks, though I tested the board with only the stock Intel fan...

My highest overclock on the board with an Intel E4300 was at 390FSB giving me 3.5Ghz.

...as CPU-Z shows us that 3.5Ghz is possible with more tweaks and 3.6Ghz is probably attainable with better cooling.

If you’re wondering about the performance of the P35-E against other boards, you’ll be happy to know that it performs at par with the competitors, even the high end models.

Overclocking
Our overclocking results were not quite what we were hoping for. P35 has done over the 550MHz mark with its DDR3. Though we are dealing with DDR2 here we were hoping to get as high as the P35T has managed which is 580MHz. The P35 has managed 520MHz, we only got 517MHz out of our current board. There are still a few BIOS issues to work out as for no reason even at stock sometimes the board will turn off and do the Gigabyte BIOS restart which usually only occurs if you overclock it incorrectly. But how can this be when we’re at stock? A few more tweaks will help this board gain some extra speed.

Final Thoughts

Well, it’s clear that the X38 with DDR2 memory is simply not the platform to build on. DDR2 has reached its limits at 1200MHz and with the bus clock speeds expected to be quite high on this board due to Intel removing its artificial overclocking restraints, we need something with more kick to keep things in check.

While DDR3 may have higher latencies, we have already seen it break 2000MHz in our Corsair vs. Super Talent article; this is where we want to see the X38 go, DDR3 all the way. If you can clock bus speeds to the max with this board, you’re going to need some good RAM.

While our RAM may have contributed to the problem of low clock speeds, we have seen this RAM go above 1200MHz before, and we haven’t even got there today with this board which leads us to conclude that this baby while having a good enough BIOS for retail use still needs some tweaking, and Gigabyte are known for their BIOS releases to improve their already impressive boards.

The things we really liked here was the clean layout of the board along with the new Dual PCI Express x16 slots running at full speed. Finally Crossfire gets a good platform to work on.

According to one of our sources, Asus doesn’t have an X48 design, so those hoping that the new Maximus Formula and Extreme boards were going to feature this chipset, you’ll be disappointed. The other two X38 boards are the P5E3 Deluxe and the P5E3 WS Pro, the latter of the two being a workstation board.

Abit IP35 Pro(190$)-a very good overclocker.
ECS P35T-A(100$)-It did well as far as stock performance goes, but the overclocking of the board was pathetic.
Foxconn P35A-S(150$,after rebate 110$)-This board was a diamond in the rough...outstanding value.
Gigabyte P35-DS3R (130$)-good performer.
Asus Blitz Formula (275$)-a wonderful board to work with...this board did not fail overclocking like a beast.
Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi-AP(225$)-Its performance was tops in this round-up, beating every board overall...the best overclocker in both default and lower multiplier settings.

Abit IP35 Snake vs.Asus Blitz Formula vs.Asus P5K3 Deluxe

The IP35 Pro is masterfully designed, with thought put in to all aspects of the board layout from onboard device placement to overall board cooling flow. On top of that, the board’s performance in both stock and overclocked modes was excellent.

To abit’s credit, I found that only a minimal amount of air was needed to cool the heat pipe, even under the most strenuous overclocking conditions.

Still though, if you are looking to do some extreme overclocking, beyond the 450MHz FSB mark, which we know some of you do, you had best look elsewhere.
