Ok, ablium…. I’m a mountain man… and I consider that usually my fellow alpinist don’t engage in fabricating lies (except for the odd drunken soon to be dead alpinist that saw Bigfoot). So I tend to believe when lot’s of climbers start telling the same story. (and begin producing photos on that subject), And maybe, because I like the mountains so much, I am a little biased concerning the plight of the Tibetan people. (but I don’t care so much about the Dalai-lama or whatever)
The link on the pro Tibetan web site appeared in my post… just because it was the first place where the photographic evidence appeared… there are a lot other links referring to this story... which captured my attention
I think that people like me (alpinists) don’t risk being banned from the Tibetan side of the Himalayans just to tell lies. We love to much those mountains…
I presume there isn’t any central government involvement here… (Just because I consider that those guys in Beijing are smarter than doing this…. <those 8 people shot worth , and I am cynical here, lot less than Chinas reputation>, and they wouldn’t have done that in front of lot’s of foreign tourists and let them keep the photos ) It’s more or less… a good example of moronic stupidity at local level, and unfortunately a sign of Chinese intolerance and hate towards the non-Chinese…
And getting to the point… "me going to Beijing". Is there a degree of intolerance toward foreigners in China… like the smugness of the Japanese people? Or, I am ok… as long as I am a walking spending machine? Do Chinese people like foreigners? Or just those who come from a country that works better or is more powerfull (maybe more a question of respect).
I just ask, because it would be nice to make some Chinese friends...
Sorry for being a little mean today, but this Tibetan thing (happening in 2006) has put me in a very BAD mood, mainly because I like so much what China wants to build… and I want China to become a great civilized superpower… an example for the occident and the whole world.
So this is truly a disappointing development….
