Richard Harris, in varsta de 72 de ani, a murit ieri intr-un spital din Londra. Boala de care suferea se numea Hodgkin's disease.

James Coburn: 1928-2002
James Coburn, the tough-guy actor known for his roles in The Magnificent Seven and Our Man Flint, died Monday at age 74 of a heart attack. Coburn was at his Beverly Hills home with his wife Paula when he suffered a massive coronary at 4:30 p.m. PST; he was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The tall, imposing actor with the wicked grin won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1998 for Paul Schrader's Affliction, in which he played the abusive, alcoholic father of Nick Nolte, capping an illustrious career that began with the 1959 Western Ride Lonesome. Another Western a year later, The Magnificent Seven, made Coburn a name actor and catapulted him into roles in major Hollywood features, including Hell Is For Heroes, Charade, The Great Escape, and The Americanization of Emily. He achieved his greatest success as suave secret agent Derek Flint in Our Man Flint (1966) and In Like Flint (1967), which were considered the best James Bond spoofs ever made, and an inspiration for the Austin Powers films. Character roles followed in the 70s, including The Last of Shelia, Bite the Bullet, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid and Cross of Iron. Coburn also achieved a comeback in the 90s, after he overcame a 15-year battle with rheumatoid arthritis that threatened his career in the 80s, during which he scaled back his film appearances dramatically. In the past ten years, he appeared in films as varied as Young Guns II, The Nutty Professor, Maverick, and lent his voice to last year's hit film Monsters Inc.; in all, he made over 100 movies. Coburn is survived by his wife, two children, Lisa and James Jr., and two grandchildren.

Actor Charles Bronson, known for his roles in Westerns such as "The Magnificent Seven," war movies such as "The Great Escape" and "The Dirty Dozen," and crime dramas such as "Death Wish," has died in Los Angeles, California, his publicist said. He was 81.

Intr-adevar, s-a dus si el. Mai traieste vreunul dintre magnifici?

Ca idee, poate ar fi interesant sa transformam topicul intr-un thread cu decese, comemorari, aniversari, etc. legate de industria cinematografica. Nu de alta, dar stiri dintr-astea nu se prea comenteaza, in afara de "Sa-i fie tarana usoara" si "Ce actor mare a fost", nu prea stie lumea ce sa spuna.

Symbol shift, intr-adevar nu prea stiu ce sa spun despre Charles Bronson, nu a fost un actor al generatiei mele. Poate cei mai in varsta isi aduc aminte in ce filme a jucat si cat de bun a fost ca actor, eu personal nu am vazut decat vreo 3-4 filme de-ale lui si mi-a placut pentru stilul lui de "tough guy" si cam atat.

Au inceput sa moare o gramada de actori buni in ultimii 2-3 ani...si cand ne gandim ca o sa apucam si moartea lui de niro,al pacino,arnold,angelina jolie(yeah i know)...

American illustrator William Steig, creator of the green monster Shrek and dozens of other cartoon characters, has died aged 95.

The man Newsweek magazine dubbed the "King of Cartoons" died of natural causes on Friday night at his Boston apartment, his agent Holly McGhee said.

Steig created the grouchy yet gentle Shrek for a children's book in 1990. Eleven years later, the movie Shrek became an international hit, bringing in $US268 million ($A392.1 million) in the United States alone and winning the 2002 Oscar for best animated film.

Steig's first job as a cartoonist was at The New Yorker, where he was hired seven decades ago. He went on to draw animal and fantasy figures that appeared in more than 1600 drawings and nearly 120 cover illustrations for the highly respected magazine.

Sir Peter Ustinov, unul dintre cei mai respectati actori ai Marii Britanii, a decedat la resedinta sa din Elvetia, duminica seara, la virsta de 82 de ani. Ustinov s-a nascut la Londra pe 16 aprilie 1921, ca fiu al unui fost ofiter al armatei tariste care refuzase sa depuna juramintul fata de biserica ortodoxa rusa pentru ca era protestant.
Ustinov a frecventat scoala Westminster din Londra (rezervata prin traditie baietilor de familie buna), pe care a detestat-o intr-atit incit a parasit-o cind avea 16 ani. Aproape imediat a cunoscut succesul pe scenele teatrelor de revista din Londra; prima sa piesa de teatru a fost pusa in scena in 1940, cind Ustinov avea doar 19 ani.
Peter Ustinov a avut o cariera artistica remarcabil de lunga si de prolifica, care s-a intins pe sase decenii: a cistigat doua premii Oscar pentru rol secundar (“Spartacus” - 1961, si “Topkapi” - 1965). A mai jucat in multe ecranizari dupa romanele Agathei Christie, ca “Moarte pe Nil”, intruchipindu-l pe celebrul detectiv Hercule Poirot; a interpretat mai multe personaje celebre din antichitate, ca imparatul Nero (in “Quo Vadis”) sau Irod cel Tinar (in ecranizarea vietii lui Iisus, realizata de Franco Zeffirelli in 1977). Dincolo de cariera sa actoriceasca, Ustinov a fost, de asemenea, un romancier notabil si, nu in ultimul rind, unul dintre cei mai longevivi “ambasadori ai bunavointei” pentru UNICEF.
